Where to Find the Best Açaí Bowls in Birmingham

We started in 2017 with one food truck and a theory that Birmingham would show up for superfruit bowls. Eight locations later, six of them in the Birmingham metro, that theory has held up.

If you are trying to work out which one to go to, they are not interchangeable. The menu is the same everywhere, but the neighborhoods are different, the hours are different, and what each shop is actually good for is different. Here is the honest rundown.

Vestavia Hills

3036 Healthy Way, #100 · Monday–Saturday, 10:30am–8:00pm

Our flagship, and the one on Healthy Way — a street name we did not plan but will happily take. This is the location that grew directly out of the food truck, and it still sets the standard for everything else.

Good for: a reliable, unhurried stop with easy parking. If you have never had a superfruit bowl and want the definitive version, come here and order the OG Bowl.

Downtown Birmingham

113 20th Street South · Monday–Saturday, 8:00am–6:00pm

The earliest opening and the earliest closing in the metro, which tells you exactly who this location serves: downtown workers, UAB, and anyone who wants breakfast that is not a pastry. The 8:00am open is the key detail.

Good for: a fast morning stop before work, or a mid-afternoon reset. Order the Powerhouse Bowl if you are skipping lunch — açaí, almond milk, peanut butter, whey protein and Nutella will genuinely hold you.

Homewood

960 Oxmoor Road · Monday–Saturday 7:00am–7:00pm, Sunday 8:00am–5:00pm

The widest hours we have anywhere. Open at 7:00am six days a week and the only Birmingham-area shop open on Sunday, which makes it the default for weekend mornings and for anyone whose schedule does not cooperate with normal retail hours.

Good for: early risers, Sunday, and the post-run crowd off Oxmoor. Order The Hawaiian — spinach, apple juice, banana, pineapple, kiwi, strawberries, coconut flakes, honey and chia — if you are eating after exercise rather than before.

Brock's Gap

1031 Brock's Gap Pkwy, Hoover · Monday–Saturday 8:00am–8:00pm, Sunday 10:00am–5:00pm

The longest weekday stretch of any location: twelve hours, six days a week, plus Sunday afternoons. Brock's Gap has grown fast, and the hours reflect a neighborhood that is busy at both ends of the day.

Good for: whenever you actually have time, which is the point. Order the Blazer Bowl if you want the most going on in one bowl — blackberries, kiwi, mango, coconut flakes, honey and chia on an açaí base.

Trussville

220 Main Street · Monday–Saturday, 10:30am–8:00pm

Right on Main Street, in the middle of everything happening in Trussville. This is the one people walk to, which changes the rhythm of the place — more families, more after-school, more people making an evening of it.

Good for: an evening stop, or anything involving kids. Order the Iron Bowl — açaí, apple juice, banana, strawberries, granola, blueberries and coconut flakes. Uncomplicated, and nobody has ever sent one back.

Samford University

105 Talbird Circle · Monday–Saturday, 10:30am–8:00pm

On campus, which makes it the most specialized of the six. Term-time energy, a steady stream of students between classes, and a line that moves quickly because most people already know what they want.

Good for: students, campus visitors, and anyone near Lakeshore who does not want to drive further. Order the Bham Bowl — pitaya, almond milk, peanut butter, strawberries, whey protein, granola, blueberries, banana and Nutella.

• Earliest open: Homewood, 7:00am
• Open on Sunday: Homewood and Brock's Gap
• Latest close: Vestavia Hills, Brock's Gap, Trussville and Samford, all 8:00pm
• Best for a quick weekday stop: Downtown Birmingham
• Best if you have never had one: Vestavia Hills

Every location blends to order across all three bases — açaí, pitaya and green — so whichever you pick, the bowl is made when you ask for it.
